This week has been especially tiresome, stress inducing..bordering down right depressing. So what does one do when feeling the blahs? She goes shopping! It's even better when the scores are AWESOMELY priced!!

Although still Winter... Spring is just around the corner and these sandals are just what the doctor ordered. These Vince Camuto Aman sandals are fierce! I love the rich brown color, a beautiful neutral. But the selling point was the Croc texture and the cuff around the ankle detail. I can see me rocking these with many a DVF wrap dress.

Next up, another pair of fierce! These I had actually been eyeing on the Vince Camuto sight but never pulled the trigger. How delighted am I that I got them for a STEAL!!

LOVE!!! I chose a cognac color, yet another great neutral. I love the design and can see myself rocking them with tons of looks. The Vince Camuto Baron sandal also comes in black but I typically don't wear black shoes in Spring or Summer.

The bestest part of scoring these super cute shoes??? They were only $25.00 each!!! Bananas, right?!?

Newest Additions

I've been making some progress with the living room. I received my lamp delivery yesterday. YAY! I found a couple of vintage Hollywood Regency, Mid Century Asian, Modern lamps.. (that's a mouthful) on Etsy.

These lamps are HUGE!! They are 42" tall and so fab!!

Although not the ones that Brooke sourced, I did keep in her "Go Big or Go Home" suggestion.

The lamps did not come with the shades which is cool because I wasn't in love with those. The seller, Retrosymphony, did pass along a source for custom shades and provided me with a photo of the more modern shade.

I really like the shorter shade.

I believe that I will be painting these lamps white and freshing up the brass fittings. I will tackle that this weekend.

I will also be looking into getting some decorative wall molding. I saw a segment on the Steve and Chris show (LOVE their home decor segment) and it has me in a tizzy to get my walls done.

So pretty!

Seemed easy enough, I just have to remember to measure twice, cut once.

I was getting really frustrated with trying to figure out how to "finish" my living room. So rather than go it alone and probably make tons of mistakes which would equal many trips to the store for returns or exchanges.. I opted to get help from a design blogger.


Meet Brooke of The Modern Sophisticate

I happened upon her blog maybe two weeks ago and loved every post. I especially loved her fashion-inspired design boards.

Tom Ford's collection that I LOVED!

I was so smitten by her interpretation of Ford's collection and just overall style aesthetic. We shared so many favs, styles and looks.

I shot Brooke an email and almost a week later, I had a design board to finish my living room. It was if she had read my mind but added edits because I can get out of hand... really quickly, just ask Hubby.

So here is the first board:

She gave me drama, texture, Neoclassic, Modern, Vintage and glam. What I especially loved was the Arteriors Mirabelle Twelve Light Chandelier. That chandelier is so fab and would totally make my living room SANG!!! Not sing.. SANG! So yeah, I'm gonna have to save up for that baby.

I loved the idea of black drapes but for some reason, I thought that black drapes would be too something...for the space..even though I have the black fireplace and the piano. I decided to hold a black table cloth up the the window and wasn't in love. It was just as I suspected.. too severe. Boo!

I emailed my concerns to Brooke and she sent me another board in the blink of an eye.

This board is giving quiet sophistication, which is what I'd like the living room to feel and look like. I love the shade of gray, which is neither too light or dark. And the gray with the brass and gold tones really work well to me.

I've already ordered the brass curtain rods, the drapes and lamps. I'm looking for a source for custom bolster pillows. I will head to Home Goods for the bone boxes and Mongolian throw pillows, they always have those items there and for great prices.

I will order the Flokati rug probably at the end of the month and try to find someone to buy me the "to the trade" large scale Greek key to trim the drapes.

I can't wait to see how it turns out.

The veining in this tub is spectacular. I also love that it is a clawfoot tub, my favorite. The brass hardware is so complimentary and warm as is the antique gold trim leaning mirror. The wood flooring, (which I'm sure is reinforced to sustain the weight of a 2200lb tub) adds even more warmth to the room.

I love me some animal print. To me, it's the most fabulous pop of FIERCE! And I would like to incorporate it into my decor.

I have a pair of small vintage settees... I'm thinking one of them needs a leopard print makeover. It will go in my office space.

I think this would be great for a child's room. It's full of youthful exuberance. Perfectly playroom worthy!

Love everything about this room, especially the bench swathed in zebra print.

This Stark "Antelope" rug is BLOWING MY MIND!! Maybe I can do this as a runner for my stairs or in my dressing room. I WANT and NEED!

Zebra print cow hide in the kitchen! Why not?? I totally would.

Is that a tiger print ottoman I see? So loving that! It's a punctuation that brings an otherwise serene room to SUPREME!

It All Began With This

My love for the Porter chair began with this photo. At the time, I had just began becoming somewhat interested in interior design.. figuring out what appealed to me.. what I thought was fabulous. It was this room.. by designer Smith Boyd.

Actually, I just discovered, today, the name of this designer.. thanks Kimberly Ward!

I believe this was one of the very first photos in my inspiration folder. I love so much about this room but it was the Porter chair that stood out. I loved that tradition was turned on it's fabulous ear and the chair was covered in a beautiful chevron-esque fabric. I still don't have my beloved Porter chair but I will!!

And can I just say I'm totally smitten with the luxe layering and texturizing that Smith Boyd imparts into all of his designs. I love how he mixes multiple styles so seamlessly...

This bedroom has changed my entire idea of how I want my dining room to look. It's glam, has a Chinoiserie vibe and has color. LOVE IT!

I wish he had a book, a class at the Learning Annex, a pamplet, SOMETHING that could break down his design process..give insight into how he sees design.. But for now, I'll just keep him on my radar and look out for more fabulous design from him.

Living Room Update

I'm currently working with a fellow blogger on my living room. Although, I love what I have in there so far, I felt I needed assistance with pulling the finished look together. I didn't want to shop for something I loved only to return it because it didn't "work" or "fit". I wanted off the return, shop, return, shop, return roller coaster.

So, I've forwarded over everything she needed... photos, measurements, my "wants" and "needs" for the space as well as my style.. well in my case, styles..because I love a bit of everything.

My hope is that she's able to cull through all of my ca-razy and provide me with a room that's "Veranda" worthy.

I just hope she doesn't ask me to paint. Ugh, you KNOW how much I hate painting.

A Lttle Of This And A Little Of That

I'm still working on the kitchen. So much so, I'm dreaming about it, literally, every night. I will begin tackling the DIY rustic work table/island, probably next week.

However, I still feel that there are other areas in the kitchen that need filling. Let's take a look at what I'm envisioning shall we?

Next up, the floor. I need a rug. I have been hopeless in this area because I haven't seen a single rug that I like.. NOT ONE. I thought I wanted something worn and a little frayed but for some reason, it just doesn't fit "me".

Then, I finally came across two rugs that I really like. The first was a grey Ikat type rug from Ballard Designs:

Sorry for crappy phone pics. Although the color reads blue.. it's really various shades of gray...very pretty.

And the second one is a comtemporary wool rug that has a pop of yellow, which is the accent color I want to use in the kitchen.

Home Decorators

I'm leaning towards the gray Ikat because it's a neutral and I can add a pop of color with accessories (less pricey items).

Oh yeah and I would like to add lighting over the island so I'm deciding amongst these few:

I would totally do yellow Tolix stools.

I LOVE that this kitchen is pretty neutral but has these brilliant pops of yellow. I've been annoyed with myself for wanting color but not commiting and pulling the trigger on colorful items. But this design illustrates how easily I can get my color fix by adding a just few colorful tangibles of flowers and fruit.

I'm also dying because this design includes a little Chinoiserie.. and I have those Double Happiness jars. They are so going in my kitchen.

Oversized Art

Lately, I've been obsessed with finally committing to putting some art on my walls. I have two pieces that are going to be installed at the end of the month. I can't wait! Those pieces are going to go on the walls that are flanking the window seat on second floor landing.

I need to add a window seat cushion and some fab throw pillows. It's such a great little spot.. it needs to be comfortable.

I LOVE this!! The size, the composition and being placed on the dark wall... it's perfection. The hubby thinks that we should do this in the dining room. I concur.

Small House Updates

The kitchen and butler's pantry are finally painted.

Before:

The kitchen had dark brown walls and cream cabinets with this brown glaze treatment.. done poorly.

After:

Still no window treatments but I'm getting there.. compiling fabric swatches. (don't mind that unpainted drawer.. it's been painted since this the time of this photo)

These cabinets are so old but they look pretty good painted a glossy white. I used Rustoleum White Gloss enamel paint.

I'm going to replace the faucet. I found a great vintage-y one on Overstock. I also have to put some mineral oil on the Soapstone counters.. it will make them a deep black instead of the gray-ish black that they are now.

LOVE the gray on the walls. The color is BM Stonington. It's a perfect true gray. It makes the kitchen look and feel so much more spacious.

Bad glazed cabinets and awful brown wall paper.

After:

I am loving the black cabinets. Again, used glossy enamel by Rustoleum.

The butler's pantry looks great from the front of the house.. it's such a punctuation to the mostly white interior of the house.

Also, did you notice the new sparkling light?

Crystal 3-Light Chrome Chandelier

I'm so happy with this chandy. I bought it from Overstock and received it within a couple of days. It was packaged extremely well and even came with cotton gloves to handle the crystals.. that was a thoughtful touch.

It's such a little jewel in the space. I'm so glad that I took a chance and got it because the photo on Overstock does it NO justice.

I still have to add a few more things, like new hardware, a rug and window treatments, of course. I think that's where I will add a punch of color and pattern. With that said, I'm loving how things are coming along.

Lastly, wanna see my mostly Dollar Store Christmas dinner table?

The only items that are not from the Dollar Store are the mercury glass candle holders (tallest holders), the plates and flatware... oh and the flowers. Everyone really loved the table, especially the reindeer place holders.

I really LOVE this aged brass disc wall. It's inspired a piece of DIY art that I would like have for my home. Although I won't be using aged brass discs.. as much as I would like to.. I may use large gold pailletes.

Got Wood?

I'm dying to get a rustic work island for my kitchen. Apprently, my house had one but right before we bought it, someone in the neighborhood pilfered our lovely work island.

We met said neighbor that bought the island and she was pleased as punch to tell me that.. much to my chagrin. Boo!

I have been having the hardest time finding one like it.. so I've decided to build one. *insert laugh track*

Yup, I'm gonna do it. It will be my first project using power tools and I'm looking forward to it. I really like this one in the photo. The unfinished wood and the two shelves.. it's perfect. I think given the space that I have to work with in my kitchen, a two shelved work table would be ideal for storage and cute styling.

I hope to find some reclaimed wood.. but if not, I will be happy with some from Home Depot and just beat it with a heavy chain.

Can you believe it's almost 2012? Me either but a new year is upon us and it's gonna be bigger, more fabulous and even more awesome!

As with life, there's up and downs but I'm thankful to say that this year was filled with way more ups. YAY for ups!

I'm looking so forward to seeing what 2012 brings... looking forward to seeing how I will evolve as a woman, wife and mother.

I'm hoping I can revisit owning my own business again.While I'm thankful to have a great career, I was over the moon having my own company. After all, I need to be a boss with my new fancy desk. (in progress)

On the home front, I will continue to decorate to my heart's content. It's been quite a learning experience and I'm loving every minute of it. I have some new updates to share...coming soon.

I'm planning to work on the front yard...thinking of adding a semi-circular driveway along with some new flower beds that contain pretty bunches of hydrangeas. We need flowers to soften up the front of the house. Also need to add some shutters to the second floor windows.

I'm sure there will be lots of new experiences and adventures upon the horizon and I can't wait!!

Sorry about the lack of posts.. I've been so, so, SO very tired. No energy to do nuffin'. Just no strenf. But I finally got it together and finished painting the pantry, went gift and decor shopping, planned and shopped for the Christmas dinner (with Hubby's help), decorated the tree and most of one fireplace mantels. Maybe next year, I'll get around to decorating the other four fireplaces.

Every year, I say that I'm gonna get started early.. to have all my gifts done by the end of Summer and of course it never happens and I just wanna kick myself because my procrastination. But alas, I'm almost at the finish line and I can enjoy all of my last minute, hard work.

I've already started thinking of how I want to decorate the dining room mantle next year.. make it a dessert buffet.

LOVE this idea!! It's so cute and functional. I'm all over it.

I need a desk and it can't just be any desk. It has to be a "ME" desk. I have found said desk and I've been obsessing about it since I first laid eyes on it.

This Ram's Head dining table turned desk is the desk of my DREAMS!!

I squealed with delight the first time I saw this desk. I had no idea about the history, era or anything, I just knew deep, deep in my bones that I SHALL have this table as my desk, too.

I have been searching high and low for this beautiful table/desk. I finally found one at a charming vintage store, Again and Again. You have to check out the site and if you're lucky enough to live in the Dallas area.. you can stop by the store and see all the fabulousness in person.

Upon eyeing that table, I sent an email immediately.. around 2am this morning. I couldn't even sleep knowing that the table is almost in reach. I was so anxious, I didn't even wait the my requisite of 24hrs before making phone contact. It was serious, Folks. I NEED this table/desk.

I spoke to the super sweet owner, Leslie, she was so patient and answered my millions of questions about the table and a few other furniture items in her store.

I also learned that she custom reupholsters, lacquers and remixes her awesome furniture finds per the clients request. Which is great because I also have my eye on two hooded chairs and two scroll benches.

Back to the Ram's Head table.. unfortunately it's out of my immediate plans to finally make that desk mine. Boo! Maybe the co-signer will agree to a payment plan or acquiesce to selling just the table bases without the glass. It may not amount to a huge discount but every little bit helps.

Leslie was also kind enough to suggest a few other vintage stores that are located on the East Coast... Circa Who (great store) and C. Bell (LOVE this new discovery). While neither had a Ram's Head table, they both carry some really cool stuff.

So, the quest continues... I have hope of finding this table buried in the back of some non nondescript vintage shop for a few hundred dollars. Stranger things have happened.

Bring On The Bling!

The excitement is mounting as work on the look of the butler's pantry. I want to keep the Victorian-ness but add my glam twist.

So, I already know that I want the black cabinets.. I will look for a gray-black paint.. probably make a trip to Lowe's tomorrow for samples.

Next up is new hardware for the cabinets. I found some really pretty pulls at House of Antique Hardware. This site reproduces America's historic hardware which was perfect for me because I wanted hardware that was keeping in the era of my house.

I've also learned from the site, that my house is the Shingle style architecture, which came late to the Victorian era party and thusly, less ornate than the older sister and almost synonymous with Victorian homes , the Queen Anne.

Ok, so back to the pretty hardware I chose. The first photo is for the upper cabinets and the second photo, the lower cabinets.

The Ava Bamboo Table lamp

I adore that lamp and I'm looking forward to seeing a pair of them in my dining room.

I ordered a cute silver plated server and was greeted by it when I got home today.

Unlike most things I buy vintage, this baby came polished to a high shine. I love that bamboo handle.

It's really cute, small... about 9" tall and perfect for my desk. I usually like to keep a little something sweet within reach and I won't freak out when someone else reaches for candy. Candy dish = germy hands.

I'm in love with this image. It takes my breath away. Those creamy white walls and the panel molding is perfectly perfect.

I had been thinking about adding panel molding to my house and now I'm certain I will. It just adds such a luxe yet traditional feel to a space.

I'm finding the more I delve into how I want my house to look and feel, the more I refine my design/decor palette. I still love the Hollywood Regency look but I now I want to infuse with a luxe, refined Traditional look, with touches of French Regency, Neo-classical and a wee bit of Rococo.

I wonder if there's a DIY tutorial out in blogland for installing panel molding.

Anyone know of one?

The Butler's Pantry

While the kitchen will have it's gray walls and glossy white cabinets and it's black matte Soapstone counters, I want to kick it up a notch in butler's pantry. I'm thinking of either black or charcoal cabinets and white walls and a little bling.

Draper-esque cabinet door?!? I can't WAIT for the kitchen re-no.

Love the silver leafed ceiling and "disco ball" lighting.

I like the thought of a glam butler's pantry because when you walk into the house the butler's pantry is straight back and within full sight. I think it should provide some eye candy.

Gray Kitchen

We have started painting the kitchen and I must say picking a gray has proven to be a little challenging. The first color that I chose was Olympic Flagstone:

It looked really great in the can but was reading a little blue on my walls...

Actually this photo that's opposite the windows.. it looks like a gray / lavender. But over by the windows, it looked gray / blue. It was giving me a Country Cottage kitchen feel and I wasn't feelin' that.

I've learned that taking lighting into consideration is very important. While this color doesn't work in my light filled kitchen, it would probably look great in one of that bathrooms that doesn't get much light. It would look like a rich gray, just like the swatch on the can, in a spot that isn't compromised by the natural light. I must say, this house is making me a student of everything.

Either way, I had to go. I liked the color but not for my kitchen. I wanted a true gray that didn't lean toward blue or green.

I felt so bad because the painter had almost finished the walls but I was cringing every time I would look at it. It had to be changed and quickly. I remembered that I had some paint samples of grays and wanted to see if any of those would work. So we swatched:

The first swatch was SW Classic French Gray... too dark. Might use this for my daughter's room though.

Next up BM Stonington Gray... I think it's a winner but I have to see the other two colors.

The third swatch was BM Silver Fox. It didn't look silvery nor foxy. It looked like like a medium taupe color with a slight green undertone. NEXT!!!

The final swatch was BM Revere Pewter (bottom right), that read a little taupe-y too.

We have a winner.... love the Stonington Gray. It reads true, it's not too light, has just the right amount of depth, it looks great in our kitchen. Can't wait to see it on all the walls.

Now that that's over, I can focus on new cabinet pulls and window treatments.

Sometimes shopping for others can be so hard for someone like me... I want to keep everything for myself. For instance here's a couple of gifts that I'm pondering..

Who doesn't love an Infinity scarf? I adore them. Here's a fab scarf with some serious glam factor going on from Etsy. An Infinity scarf with fur and a rhinestone detail. If I buy this, I KNOW I'm gonna wanna keep it for myself.

Then, I found another all fur Infinity scarf...

I know this would be loved by anyone who receives it. Again, if I buy it, I'm gonna wanna keep it.

No, only is it bad with clothing items but household ones as well. I found this insanely fab candle:

I'm thinking about doing two trees this year... I hadn't considered it until my friend suggested it during her visit for Thanksgiving.

I will be ordering my champagne gold Christmas tree this weekend. I can't wait to see it in person and decorate it.

I've also pondered the idea of getting a second black Christmas tree and I'm simply LOVING that idea.

My Thanksgiving Table

I must say that out of all the wonderful things I'm thankful for in my life, I'm also thankful that I started blogging. It has opened my eyes to so much. It has helped me become a better home maker. I've learned to love thrifting, decorating, DIY, cooking more elaborate meals and making everything I do in my home, more purposeful and a little more fab.

Blogging provides me with so much inspiration for doing everything in life.. just better. I love that.

Case in point, I shared really wonderful mother, daughter time as I showed her how to make a simple floral arrangement. It was a lesson for me too, as I had never done it before but Eddie made it look simple yet elegant enough.

Most of the roses were still kinda closed, so Briani painstakingly opened most of them. In addition, we didn't have floral foam or florist table... too much running around to do and not enough time to find foam and tape. We made due with a grid made of Scotch tape.

I also got to use some of my vintage and thrifted finds:

I found this sterling silver punch bowl after attending my very first Estate Sale. Thanks Tonya, for telling me about this treasure trove.. the Estate Sale. This was my first time using it as a vase.

I had been dying to have the bamboo flatware but never pulled the trigger to get the set from Neiman's. So, I went trolling Craigslist and found this pretty fabulous gold bamboo flatware set. I had never considered gold flatware before but I thought it was pretty darn cute. For the set of 43 pieces, (it was missing a small fork) I got it for a steal of $40.00.

The black plates came from the Dollar Store... crazy right? I was thrilled to find black plates there... they are really great, nice weight and dishwasher and microwave safe. The gold chargers was a purchase made during the summer at Bed, Bath and Beyond.. I think I paid $3.00 for a set of 8, so I got the gold AND silver.

The little gilt pumpkins were found last minute at the grocery store... I spray painted them gold.

The striped "tablecloth" is fabric I found at IKEA. Thank you Natalie for this inexpensive find!! This fabric was perfect, I LOVED it.

I had a wonderful Thanksgiving this year. We had a house full of friends and family and it was the absolute best time EVER!! I hope your Thanksgiving was just as wonderful.

Did you see the The Twilight Saga-Breaking Dawn Part 1? I have to say I really enjoyed the movie. I watched with baited breath to see Bella's Carolina Herrera designed gown.

As I watched Bella nervously walk down the aisle, I could only swoon at her total look.. very classic with a touch of sultry. OMG don't even get me started on her shoes!!! I want them!!

I was telling my daughter, who accompanied me, that I've had 11 brides book hair and makeup with me and they all said want to look like Bella from Twilight. The movie only came out on November 18th and already brides have let it influence their wedding day look. I anticipate, gladly, more bookings to look like Bella.

I must admit though, Bella did look beautiful at her "MidSummer's Night Dream" inspired wedding.

That back is STUNNING!!! I love the buttons down the back and on the sleeves, gives it a vintage feel.

Thanksgiving Table Inspiration

I've been needlessly stressed about Thanksgiving dinner. I am forgetting the reason for the day.. to spend time with friends and family, being thankful for the many blessings in my life and eating myself into a Turducken coma. So, I scrapped all of my grand ideas for this Colin Cowie-esque table and buffet setting.

In an effort to simplify my life and preserve my sanity, I want to have a beautiful yet chic. My dining room is basically a blank slate, so I figured I really wanted to make the table pop but with minimal effort. Here's my inspiration:

Simply yet impactful. I will have to run to the fabric store and hopefully they have a wide striped fabric. *fingers crossed*

I will add my gold flatware, black plates, candles and a pretty flower arrangement and call it a fab Turkey Day!

I have been contemplating my Thanksgiving meal.. more specifically the dessert(s). My Hubby suggested that since this is our first Thanksgiving in the new house we should kick it up a notch and do a dessert buffet. Sounds good but also sounds like a lot of work.

In addition to the praline sweet potato pies, German chocolate and Spice cakes, I wanted to also make mini caramel apple pies.

I have never made a pie before let alone mini ones but I'm confident I can do it.. especially with the muffin pan technique. But I would rather use this instead:

This pie maker would make a great Christmas gift. *hint*

I'm always smitten with a kitchen appliance that makes minis!

I could have my daughter make the pies.. store bought pie crust, some doctored up apple pie filling and 8 minutes later, delicious and CUTE looking pies.

Then, the next morning, I could whip up some mini quiches to go with some mini Belgian waffles.

Even with all the work ahead of me, I must admit I'm feeling a bit ambitious for the dessert buffet. In addition to the cakes, pies and chocolate fountain, I wonder if I could make these too?

Judging A Book...

I don't have one design book. Nope, not one. So, I'm building a list and will start a collection. Here's what's at the the top of my list so far:

Truth be told, I love the ceiling and the art on the front cover, that's why I want it. I'm sure it will have great content but the cover really captured me.

Since becoming familiar with Eddie Ross and more recently, Mr. Goodwill Hunting, I'm all about buying antiques and shopping fleas and Goodwills. Never in a million years did I think I would love anything that wasn't modern and contemporary but I have grown and evolved in my decor aesthetic.

I may not like EVERYTHING she does but she takes risks and has a very bold point of view and I love that.

I love Jaime Drake's interiors and his use of bold color.

It's Vogue...'nuff said.

Not a decor book but I'm planning to go to Paris and don't want to have any fashion faux pas.

How cute is this De Gournay designed bike?

While very pretty, it's overwhelming to me.

Love this installation, mostly because it's tonal design. Although, I believe I want a Chinoiserie dining room, I have a phobia of prints. This tonal design really appeals to me, it's more subtle but still very beautiful. And don't get me started on my favorite chairs - I LOVE Porter chairs.


This is also very pretty because it's larger design. There's lots of negative space, which I like.


I have considered just doing panels and while very nice, it doesn't capture the look that I want. But it is a great alternative for a print adverse, such as myself.

I think I will HAVE to impart a interior designer for my dining room. There's too many elements that I love and want to incorporate for lots of trial and error...not to mention the money.

Bathroom Remix

I'm really under the gun to get the house together as much as I can before Thanksgiving. I have friends, that's more like family, coming to stay a few days and I want their experience to be as nice as I can make it.

In addition to new bedding and temporary window coverings for the guestrooms, I have to do something with the main bathroom that everyone will use. Although, it's a new bathroom, it's totally not my style.

Bleh, what color is that on the walls?? See the Roman shade that came with the house? I should be embarrassed that it's still up but I'm not. Just have to work on changing it alot sooner than I was ready to. I have an enclosed jacuzzi tub which I HATE. It's such a waste because we never use it and I'm not a fan of enclosures like that.. especially with the brassy trim on the doors. YUCK!! Because we can't rip out that tub and wall just yet, I will have to hang a shower curtain to hide the ugly.

I need to change out that mirror and faucet fixture. I see a more prettier oval mirror and more antique-y looking faucet fixture in my immediate future. I HAVE to get rid of the paint color. It's so unfab.

I also have to get rid of that light fixture. I'm not a fan and makes it so difficult to do my makeup, it creates so many shadows. So, my thoughts are to flank an oval mirror with some nice lighting.

In addition to that fab clawfoot tub, I really love the painted "wainscoting" look and that the trim is painted black.

Considering that I have a limited budget and a time crunch, I will just paint and hang a nice shower curtain, add some fluffy towels, a pretty tray. That should be good, right?

I have been looking at window treatments lately. I have no coverings on any of my windows except for one of the bathrooms and that was there when we moved in. Terrible, I know.

In my defense, I didn't want to spend money to put something up, just to turn around and take it back down once I decided what I wanted a certain room or space to look like and/or how to adorn the windows.

I've been perusing the different types of options.. panel drapes, balloon and roman drapes are standouts for me and my style.

I these looks, panel and balloon shades, separately.

I believe I want to do a roman shade or more specifically a "London" shade for the family and dining rooms. Panels for the living and breakfast rooms.

I will be working on window treatments in the living room first so here's what I'm thinking.. two different looks.

The sofa I ordered from Sanctuary Design Studio finally came today. I'm so thrilled with my new sofa. It's exactly what I wanted... Sanctuary Design Studio did an AWESOME job!

So PRETTY!! Although it looks really white.. it's actually a creamy white. I LOVE it!

My small attempt to "stylize" the living room.

Love the French chairs but something is off to me...

I like this configuration but not LOVING it...

I did like this but it seemed like the big chair was too big.

Ummm, I think I'm not a fan of the backs of the chairs facing the foyer.

I added the only rug I have to see how a rug would further anchor the space and while I won't be using a hide rug, I do see how it defines the space. I'm thinking of layering a wool rug with a flotaki rug. I love how glamorous flotaki rugs look so I want one.

I really want my living room to look and feel glam... I know I need something on the bare walls, to style the buffet and the fireplace mantel, add something on the windows and the french door, pillows for the sofa and accessories. I also want to get new lamps and have a chandelier installed. So much to do and source but I'm loving every minute of it.

So, do you like the direction I'm going so far? And suggestions?

The caramel / camel colored sofa almost makes me drool at all it's finery. Sumptious velvety fabric, bench seat, tufting and nailheads. Oh, what more can a girl ask for, besides blue and yellow diamonds and an unlimited clothing and shoe closet?

I love the inky walls and the pictures framed in gold. Love that coffee table. I want a tiered table for the family room.

*sigh* I'm seriously KICKIN' myself for not getting this table when I saw it on Ebay.. KICKIN'!!

It would have been perfect. Brass hardware mixed with leather.. I'm having serious non-buyers remorse. Hopefully, I can find another beauty that will be just as fab.

I've also decided that decorating my home is not a race... it's a journey to be savored. Yes, I would like a magazine worthy home, like RIGHT NOW but I really want to enjoy taking my time to find things that I love, that are meaningful..things of great quality and substance.

I'm honing my decorating eye and exercising restraint to be patient and not just buy things just to get rid of the bareness. Being patient helps me to further tease out my design and decor preferences and style.

Speaking of patient. I've waited two LOOOOONG weeks to receive my sofa and it will be here tomorrow. YAY!!!!

With the family room's painting finally completed, I have turned my focus to styling the shelves and lighting.

You may see that hide rug more times than you care to in different parts of the house and that's because it's the only rug I have right now... it adds some visual interest to the pics. K? K!

I went through my boxes of books and what nots and attempted to pretty up the shelves.

Sorry for the dark picture.. It's so hard to get a good picture with my point and shoot camera. Hubby, you hear that??

This photo is a tiny bit better.. it shows the glossy black goodness of the shelves. It looks so fab in person.

When I was done styling the shelves, I noticed a few things.. that I need more books, what nots and LIGHT!

I'm thinking of possibily adding sconces to the shelves.

It will be especially needed once I add roman shades and just having the overhead lighting is not gonna cut it. Although the family room will be mostly for chilling out and watching TV.. I may wanna crack open a book or thumb through a magazine and not go blind doing it.

I'm thinking about a blog makeover. As much as I love my lil' blog, I want to make it more ME. I want something bling-y and visually stunning... I don't know how "bling-y" translates to HMTL for a blog but that's what I want.

First and foremost, I would really, really, REALLY like to be able to add bigger pictures to my blog. I love when I visit a blog and their photos are as big as life. I like that.

I also want to make it more organized as I plan to add more interesting content.. because, frankly, as I grow.. so should my blog.

I want to consider my blog a life and style blog or grow into that... so while "P.S. I Love This" is kinda a catch all for all the fab stuff I LOVE.. I want it to more defined, digestable and prettily packaged... kinda like a petit four.

I'm just thinkin'... ummm... writing "out loud" but as I further ponder the future of my blog, I would love suggestions on a great blog designer.

Get In My Closet! Walkin' On The Wild Side Edition

I typically play it safe with my clothing options but I saw two things that really tickled my fancy.

At first, I was like, "Ugh" but as I continued looking at shoes, I kept going back to these. I like the almond toe shape and the chunky heel. The gold color makes them quite interesting and could be a fab pop to an outfit. I totally see me rockin' them with some skinny jeans and blazer. So, now I want them. I will call them my Superhero shoes.

Next up, skinny jeans with a twist.

I didn't really need much prodding with these Gray Cheetah Print skinny jean .. LOVE them. However, as I said, it would be a walk on the wild side for me. (no pun intended) I have never worn a jean with a print. But with the subdued color, I'm game. I could see these with a chunky black sweater, cropped leather jacket and my black Double Platform Loubous.

Designer Holiday Decor

I know it's only approaching Halloween and I have some time before these decor ideas become necessary but my mind has been on holidays... more specifically Christmas. I love Thanksgiving too but I don't really decorate for Thanksgiving.

This year I want to have a gold Christmas tree.. yup, I do. So, I figured I really needed to up the fab factor with it's decor. I have always admired trees dressed to the Christmas nines but could never figure out how to make it happen at home.

Well, I have to wonder no more. I found this great tutorial on creating a designer tree and it's so simple but the impact is POW!!! Who knew it only took some metallic mesh to zhush it up???
I found these great ideas at Sam's Club.. *record scratch* I know, right. Whodathunkit?

Of course, my color scheme will be different. I'm thinking golds, champagnes and sparkly things.. and a fab faux fur throw for the tree skirt.

I will also take Eddie's advice and wrap the gifts in coordinating colors...using pretty wrapping paper and fabric bows..

I wanted to add a touch of Lucite to the living room. I love Lucite for it's lightness and glam factor. I will be ordering a bench from Plexi-Craft.

Although it will be designated primarily for the piano, it will be great additional seating, when needed.

Much better.. I just shopped my house for accessories. I will swap items as I find them. Home Goods, here I come!!

Then I decided to jazz up the front door. I was inspired by French interiors with gold trim on the doors.

Need to get around to changing the foyer lighting.. and the family room for that matter. But I like how everything is coming along.

I think I need a rug or runner for the foyer but I have no idea what to get.

Monochromatic accessories.. Asian scholar figurine and lidded box for keys and mail. It will do for now.

Today I worked on the entry area of the house. Although the foyer is spacious, there are no walls to really work with. So, I decided to try and make it a little nicer and define it a bit.

I had a small table that fit the space nicely:

I liked its cabriole legs and open fretwork but the darkness of it was blah. So, I broke out my handy dandy gold spray paint....

Ahhhhh, the gold is so much prettier. I added an Asian figurine lamp (will change out the lampshade.. it's just a placeholder...good shape but not the color).

I knew I needed something on the wall. First up, a picture that I love:

Hubby was so kind to hold it in place for me, while Chompers looked on... I like it but don't love it.

Next up, I figured I'd try a mirror that I have. I knew it would probably be too big for the space but I wanted to see if a mirror would work better.

I really liked the mirror. It instantly further brightened and enlarged the space. The mirror is kinda heavy so I couldn't get Hubby to maneuver out of the way..but I think it looks great. The oversizeness of the mirror was really appealing, very glam!

Which do you like? Picture or mirror...or should I look for something else for the wall?

If I go with the mirror, should I get a taller lamp? Or can I get away with sitting the lamp on some books?

Allison Sofa

I happened upon Build-a-Sofa on someone's blog advertisements. I had never heard of them before but their offerings seem to be just what I'm looking for. I can customize an already offered sofa, which I plan to do with this Allison sectional. I don't like the chaise part.. especially since my inspirational sofa doesn't have one:

I'm gonna give them a ring today to inquire pricing and delivery charges. I can almost check this sofa search off my "To Do / Find" list.

The sofa was completed over the weekend and it is beautiful. Sanctuary Design did a wonderful job. Rosa was an absolute joy to work with. She was very patient as I changed my mind a million times. She was quick to respond to emails and phone calls. The whole process was seamless and I can't wait to work with her on a few other custom furniture items for my home.

The only issue was that they don't offer shipping, which I knew when I started the process. In instances where I have to provide shipping, I usually use Greyhound or TSC Moving.

The sofa is too big to ship via Greyhound so TSC Moving it is.. I should have the sofa in about 2 weeks. Yay!

Small House Update

I should be embarrassed about the amount of time it has taken to paint the family room.. but really, I have no shame. Too busy and too tired to paint.

I had to hire someone to finish the job.. and I'm so freakin' happy to see the almost finished final product!!

I wish I had a better camera because I would like to capture a panoramic view.

The new camel sofa is gonna looks so pretty in there. Also, I was looking closely at the marble on the fireplace and it has camel veining in it too.. how perfect is that?

I can't wait to replace that chandelier.. I think I want this one:

In other news, remember I wrote about wanting a leopard or zebra print runner on the stairs? Well, I received the samples from Ballard's and let's just say I must continue my search.

These options read too red and brown and doesn't provide enough contrast on the wood floors.

I took my zebra cowhide and folded it up to get an idea of what it could look like... and I still love it. I just need to find a more contrasting and graphic option.

Yup, I still love the look.. just need to find the perfect pattern and colors.

So, I'm toying with the idea doing a black kitchen. We get tons of light in our kitchen and I think it could handle it. I really like the chicness of it and I am partial to having something fun and different.


So loving this!! The black countertops and that black tiled backsplash... SWOON! It's especially great because I was wondering if our black Soapstone countertop would work and now I know it will.

The best thing is, if I don't like it, I can just have it re-painted.

I really love all of these options. They are the anti-Home Depot outdoor furniture. I do love Home Depot for some things but outdoor furniture is not one of them.

Just like my house, I want my backyard oasis to be comfortable and sophisticated. Admittedly, I have alot of work to do but it's all about the journey, no?

I'm pondering an animal print for the stairs. I really love the unexpectedness of seeing that dash of sophisticated flash in a home. I'm all about the flash.

I'm partial to the runner covering the stairs...partially.

I really adore each print, Zebra and Leopard, equally so choosing one will be difficult. I've ordered some samples from Ballard.

I'm hoping that the sample is at least big enough to see what it will look like on the tread.

I love everything about this look and I've adopted it into my Fall wardrobe rotation.

I've always been a fan of the menswear style with a feminine twist. This blue pinstripe ensemble is fab! Yes, it's matchy-matchy but sometimes simple is elegant. Nude shoes.. a staple... a classic...a must have. The wide brim hat is a perfection and provides just the right amount of sass. Love, Love, LOVE!

A Leak???

Seriously, I think I'm gonna lose it. Too much pressure, not enough release. I know that life will give you plenty of lemons and I'm supposed to make lemonade but right now, I need that lemonade topped off with some vodka. And I don't even drink vodka.

It's been a trying week and it's not even over yet. *sigh*

And to top off a horrible week, a FREAKIN' LEAK IN THE ROOF THAT HAS RUINED ONE OF MY WALLS!! What in the hell? We spend sooooooo much money on fixing all that ailed this house before we moved in. I thought we were good.. the house and I... with the exception of painting and adding furniture, we should have been golden. But NO, that would have been too easy..

I wish I could release my frustration and anger like children do in supermarkets.. with a monster tantrum.. kicking and screaming and snot.. the whole nine. But alas, I'm an adult and must deal..

Have you ever heard a song that instantly transports you to another time in your life? A soundtrack of your life then, if you will? Well, the following songs do just that for me.

"Show Me" by the Cover Girls... OMG!!! I thought I was the 4th member of this group. I was hooked by the video.. the clothes, the makeup, the hair.. the glamour of it all. I think that's when I started to sneak and wear eyeliner and Wet 'n Wild lipstick in #521A.

My mom didn't buy me mini skirts, so of course, I had to sneak those too, from my girlfriends.. and mimic the outfit that the lead singer Angel wore in this video. Ahhh, to be 14 again.

And this other song, was by Starpoint called "Object of my Desire"... LOVED. THIS. SONG!! This song spoke to my young self... when I was having secret crushes on boys. Although, I blush now as I listen to the lyrics.. I now know why my mom would NOT want me singing this song with the fervor in which I belted it out everytime it came on radio. My older self truly enjoys a chuckle at the antics of younger me.

Oh and anything by Salt 'n Pepa.... forget about it!! *dances to "Push It"*

I wonder if I can talk my best friend into dressing up as Salt n Pepa with me for Halloween?

Furnishings

I had such a great time at the vineyard. The hubby and I tasted several great wines.. we really LOVED the Riesling and Raspberry wine. YUM!! The lobster tart was DELISH and it was a perfect pairing with the Riesling. And dark chocolate with the Raspberry wine.. OMG!! It was like a fireworks show for my tastebuds. I shudder just thinking about it! So freakin' good!

We are planning to go back again this weekend for their wine festival.. complete with food vendors, pony rides and hot air balloons. I'm so going on a hot air balloon ride.

On the home front, I ordered a sofa from Sanctuary for the living room.

Decided on a different sofa for the family room.. one without such a high back, which would be more comfortable for lounging.

Doesn't have nailheads but I can add those myself.

And I think I found the dining table. I've been agonizing about it, much to my family's chagrin. They are like just order a table already!!

I wanted something with an Asian feel to it but not overly so...

I like the little detail on the table's notched edge. The table has an leaf that extends the table to 96".

And while trolling Craigslist, I came across this awesome Mahogany carved French mirror with Asian influence, that I would love to have.

This photo does it NO justice. It's so unique.. I just love it. I would put it the dining room, opposite the windows and put a vintage seating underneath.

This is the cutest, tiniest Camel back settee.

They say you should take your time decorating your house and initially, I thought so too. But I'm soooooo over that notion. I just want to walk into a house that is totally, tastefully decorated. But at this point, I'd settle for just having foundational furniture in all the rooms.. or at the VERY least, the common areas.

That's the forecast and while not my ideal.. (I like a balmy 90) it will be good weather for my first visit to a winery.

Alba Estate Winery is having a special wine release for their 2010 Dry Riesling. I have just recently discovered the yumminess of Riesling so I'm excited to try this. In addition to the new wine, they will be serving a warm Lobster Tart as part of the tasting. More yumminess!

I guess it will be a perfect time to break out the coats and boots.

Hmmm, I'm a little annoyed that Target seemingly didn't plan well for the Missoni for Target promo. Boo!

I tried to access the site several times this morning and was shown a splash page, more or less because I couldn't navigate the site. I figured maybe there were server issues or not enough capacity planning for such a highly anticipated launch. I mean, come on Target, bloggers and everyone else have been talking about this collabo FOREVER and everyone wants to see all the offerings.

When I was finally able to access some of the Missoni wares, most didn't have descriptions. GAH!!

For instance, while I hadn't planned on buying any dishware, I really liked the colorful salad plates and couldn't find out anything about them.. Are they plastic.. ceramic...? Annoying.

I'm gonna try back later on this morning and hopefully they have some redunancy going on with the servers and descriptions of all the items. Rant over.. going back to sleep.

Hopefully, your experience was much better than mine.

That's pretty much all I got... The hurricane's wind and rain is making it's way to the Tri-State area and from news reports, it's not going to be pretty. So please be safe and take whatever precautions to make it so.

I have a funeral to go to today.. one of my favorite aunt's died from Breast Cancer.

Then, it's back home to have a cupcake and a glass of champagne for my birthday.

I don't really feel like celebrating but there's always room for a cupcake and champagne.
