I'm dying to get a rustic work island for my kitchen. Apprently, my house had one but right before we bought it, someone in the neighborhood pilfered our lovely work island.
We met said neighbor that bought the island and she was pleased as punch to tell me that.. much to my chagrin. Boo!
I have been having the hardest time finding one like it.. so I've decided to
build one.
*insert laugh track*
Yup, I'm gonna do it. It will be my
first project using power tools and I'm looking forward to it. I really like this one in the photo. The unfinished wood and the two shelves.. it's perfect. I think given the space that I have to work with in my kitchen, a two shelved work table would be ideal for storage and cute styling.
I hope to find some reclaimed wood.. but if not, I will be happy with some from Home Depot and just beat it with a heavy chain.

Rustic wood islands are not only great to look at, but they make for a great cutting board, any marks that you leave on it add to the character!
How frustrating that your neighbour bought the one that was there - I'd be really annoyed! Anyway, sounds like a good project, loking forward to seeing it.
